In celebration of World Water Day on March 28th, 2025, the Ministry of Infrastructure and Sustainable Energy (MISE), through its Water and Sanitation Engineering Department, hosted an inspiring school visit aimed at raising awareness about water preservation and security. The theme for the event was “Water Preservation and Security” or “Kamanoan te ran n mooi ae itiaki ibukin maurira.”

The initiative brought together multiple stakeholders, including the Ministry of Health and Medical Services, Ministry of Education, Kiribati Institute of Technology, Development Partners, like, UNICEF; and non-governmental organizations such as Live and Learn, and Red Cross. Their collective effort demonstrated the importance of community collaboration in promoting sustainable water management practices

The school visit took place at two primary schools, Rurubao Primary School and Abaunamou Primary School. MISE and its partners distributed cleaning materials to the schools, followed by hands-on activities like cleaning toilets to emphasize hygiene and sanitation. Students also performed self-composed songs related to World Water Day, performing at their school maneaba. The event concluded with refreshments for all participants.

The event successfully highlighted the importance of water conservation and demonstrated the power of unity in addressing environmental challenges. It also served as an opportunity to educate young students about sustainable practices and the role they play in securing their future.

World Water Day 2025 in Kiribati was more than just a celebration, it was a reminder that preserving water resources requires collective responsibility and continuous effort. As Kiribati continues to face environmental challenges, community-driven initiatives like this play a crucial role in fostering long-term resilience and awareness.

This year’s World Water Day event was made possible thanks to the generous support of various donors, including New Zealand (MFAT), UNICEF, Live and Learn, the Ministry of Education (MOE), the Ministry of Health and Medical Services (MHMS), and Aileen Hardware.

The Honourable Minister of Infrastructure and Sustainable Energy, Tekeeua Tarati, has applauded the efforts of MISE Engineers, including former Minister Willie Tokataake, and Marakei people for their contributions to the successful completion of Nei Tangangau Bridge and maintenance work on Nei Reei Bridge and twice the road maintence work to Marakei Island.

The handing-over ceremony took place in Norauea village near Tangangau Bridge, attended by Minister Tarati, Secretary Dr. Farran Redfern, Director General Jimmy Nuake, Principal Civil Engineer Panapa Pita, and other officials. The event also included participation from the Mayor, Elders, Island Council members, and local community representatives.

Upon their arrival on Friday, March 14, at Marakei Airport, the Minister and his team were warmly welcomed with garlands by the Island Council members, including the Mayor, before proceeding to their accommodations at the Catholic hotel.

Tangangau Bridge has been a long-standing priority for the Ministry of Infrastructure and Sustainable Energy (MISE), frequently raised in parliamentary sessions ever since the completion of Nei Reei bridge since in 2018. Recognizing the bridge’s importance to the people of Marakei, the MISE office allocated more than $500,000 from the maintenance fund 2023 to rehabilitate the existing bridge structure, that is fully funded by the government of Kiribati.

The construction on Tangangau bridge began in October 2023 by mobilizing MISE team with their heavy equipment and some materials, to begin with preparation work include site clearance and stockpiling. Late in June 2024, the materials had arrived in Marakei to continue with replacement of Tangangau bridge and completed mid February 2025. The team had continued their work and completed the repair work on Reei bridge and maintained the road twice before leaving the island early March 2025. Note the same funding initiative also covered repairs for the Reei Bridge and maintain the road twice on Marake for ensuring safer and more reliable access for the community.

Minister Tarati highlighted that the celebration was not only about the completion of these critical infrastructure projects but also about fulfilling MISE’s 100-day commitment which is now handed over to the Island Council to continue safeguarding and maintenance to the bridges and road. He emphasized that these achievements reflect the government’s dedication to sustainable infrastructure development and improving the well-being of communities and its people.

The Mayor of Marakei has responded in his speech acknowledging the completion of the project and the dedication of MISE staff and others which has accommodate the need of the island through the need of road maintenance and bridge rehabilitation and for visitors, students to drive around the island improving fuel cost saving and promote economic activities and so forth.

The speeches were then followed by the cutting of the bridge ribbon performed by the Unaine and Mayor wife, which marked the end of the celebration and opening of the bridge usage for all people on Marakei island.

There are many variations of passages of Lorem Ipsum available, but the majority have suffered alteration in some form, by injected humour, or randomised words which don't look even slightly believable. If you are going to use a passage of Lorem Ipsum, you need to be sure there isn't anything embarrassing hidden in the middle of text. All the Lorem Ipsum generators on the Internet tend to repeat predefined chunks as necessary, making this the first true generator on the Internet. It uses a dictionary of over 200 Latin words, combined with a handful of model sentence structures, to generate Lorem Ipsum which looks reasonable. The generated Lorem Ipsum is therefore always free from repetition, injected humour, or non-characteristic words etc.

Lorem ipsum, or lipsum as it is sometimes known, is dummy text used in laying out print, graphic or web designs. The passage is attributed to an unknown typesetter in the 15th century who is thought to have scrambled parts of Cicero's De Finibus Bonorum et Malorum for use in a type specimen book. It usually begins with:

“Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit, sed do eiusmod tempor incididunt ut labore et dolore magna aliqua.”

The purpose of lorem ipsum is to create a natural looking block of text (sentence, paragraph, page, etc.) that doesn't distract from the layout. A practice not without controversy, laying out pages with meaningless filler text can be very useful when the focus is meant to be on design, not content.

The passage experienced a surge in popularity during the 1960s when Letraset used it on their dry-transfer sheets, and again during the 90s as desktop publishers bundled the text with their software. Today it's seen all around the web; on templates, websites, and stock designs. Use our generator to get your own, or read on for the authoritative history of lorem ipsum.
